In The Moments … September 2021
Friday morning I was walking to meet one of my faithful volunteers to Prayer Walk the DU campus again before school starts. On the way, I walked by the International Offices and saw a friend setting up yard games for a social for the newly arrived int’l students who had their orientation yesterday (9/2) – only staff are allowed. He told me to come back around 1pm and I could meet some of them. “Okay!” as joy quickly filled my heart. Then he told me, the director has RESIGNED! Many Christians have been praying for years that God would change the director who has been very antagonistic toward Christians. The university is now in the process of finding a replacement…PLEASE pray for someone to fill this position who will welcome Christians to bless and love these internationals. This is a HUGE request, but our God is bigger! HE is the One who “raises up & brings down” leaders. “Oh Lord, grant us favor in the eyes of whomever fills this important position on such a challenging campus. May they care about the warmth of Americans towards our friends from around the world. Lord, please change the mindset of those working at the I House. In Jesus’ name. Amen.” This letter is filled with Prayer Requests.
A little after 1pm, my volunteer & I went there in the rain with “Activity Surveys & Name cards” in hand to talk with students. Within 15 minutes I felt a tap on my shoulder and was promptly told I couldn’t hand out any papers. I quickly went around apologetically to take them back. One student said, “but how can we reach you?” I said, “take a photo of this name card.” The woman was back… “you have to leave now! Turns out she was the office manager though she told me she was the receptionist. I prayed as I walked to my car, noticing that a friend from Bridges (the Int’l side of CRU) was gone. Turns out he was told to leave also “for engaging with the students.” The university makes it really hard for internationals. “Lord Jesus open some doors to meet them.” On Sept 8th I and “other faith groups” of all kinds are invited to participate in a 1-hour event, where I’ll have 5-minutes to describe what ISI can offer them. PLEASE PRAY – historically, only the American students attend these events… hopefully with all that has been going on globally, the internationals will make their way there. “Lord Jesus, bring Your kingdom to this campus and touch the hearts of these students, staff & faculty. Reveal Yourself in powerful ways, that they will hunger & thirst for You! Amen”
Seeking God’s wisdom in Re-Building international student ministry in creative ways in this COVID impacted time. Only God knows what this coming school year holds with the rapid changes globally & for open hearts in students. I’ve been blessed with many wonderful volunteers – now it’s time to re-engage with an increased awareness of authentic faith in Jesus and intentional gentle, loving boldness of truth & hope-casting as we come alongside internationals in a time where “reality confusion” is rampant. Renewal of diligent Prayer Warriors and expansion of faithful financial supporters as Christ’s return gets closer.
Pray for my friend Oriol (Spain) who lost his beloved wife Flor in a hit-run accident last week. Pray for Flordelis’ family in the Philippines. For all to put their faith solidly in Jesus and find their hope in Him. Oriol is truly in a state of shock and needs our prayers.
Bible study with Y – God’s Word is timeless and as we dig deeper, he’s moved by Jesus’ power, love & wisdom in revealing Himself as God. Pray as Y applies Scripture to his life, that he’ll see that only Jesus brings meaning to our lives.
My friend, Jane will be calling all volunteers over the next couple of months (630-688-1167). And I will be calling all on my prayer team. Please put our cell numbers (below) in your phone so you will not think we’re scammers. We look forward to talking with you.
